The important political support

Welcome HomeLess is primarily about creating awareness and debate about the homeless people in Europe. But eventhough it is not our primary goal to change policies with the touring exhibition, the political awareness and support to the exhibition is important.

Our goal is to make the citizens of Europe stop for a minute to think and reflect about their own perception of homeless people and homelessness, and to make sure that all citizens can get to know the facts, problems and possible solutions of how to change to conditions and improve the rights for the homeless people of Europe.

But is it equally as important to make sure that the Members of the European Parliament pay attention to the many problems connected to the policies concerning the rights of the homeless.

A great Danish support

Eleven of the Danish MEPs have shown their support and their willingness to participate in the debate by signing a Welcome HomeLess support declaration.

The support declaration states:

Let’s debate - Welcome HomeLess

A growing number of homeless people are living as foreigners in European cities with hardly any rights and only a few organizations to turn to. The debate concerning the welfare of the European homeless is important, and something both organizations within the field of homelessness and politicians need to place into focus.

The touring exhibition Welcome HomeLess illustrates and speaks the case of the homeless and creates awareness of the conditions that homeless Europeans live under.

The exhibition consists of 13 bronze sculptures created by Jens Galschiøt, which symbolise migrant homeless persons - persons who move from one country to another without the right to assistance in health or social security.

The initiative is Danish, but the problems the homeless Europeans deal with exist in all the member states.
