Homelessness in Europe is a problem, which lacks focus in many ways. The Welcome HomeLess touring exhibition is a project based on the idea that informational campaigns based on art will reach further out in the civil societies around Europe.
By placing 13 human size bronze sculptures of homeless people in streets and squares around Denmark and many other European capital cities the citizens of Europe will stop and wonder for a minute or two, why these homeless people are placed in their capital city.
Homelessness is often connected with fear for the unknown, and many choose to look the other way, if they notice a homeless man or woman in the streets.
The homeless ‘people’ in Welcome HomeLess invites people to stop and have a look, instead of making them look the other way, because sometimes the portrayal of the real thing is easier to cope with than the real thing.
Welcome HomeLess will have a pre-opening in Denmark in early 2010, where the exhibition will tour through the four main cities of Denmark; Copenhagen, Odense, Aarhus and Aalborg.
After the Danish tour the 13 bronze sculptures will travel off to Brussels to be exhibited in or around the European Parliament. The official opening of the exhibition will tale place her in order to mark the European angle of the project.
The European opening will also mark the send off, when the exhibition will begin the travelling trough Europe.
It is up to you, which part of the exhibition you want to be a part of, or if you want to sponsor the entire project.
